In April, we will traverse 165km across the Croatian landscape to raise money for Advocate, the Bar’s national pro bono charity.
The challenge is set over three days and involves a gruelling cocktail of running, cycling, sea kayaking and paddle boarding.
On day 1, we will start with a warm-up 45km (27.96 mile) run. On day 2, we will find our groove with a 3km paddle board at sea, 70km cycle and 10km run. On day 3, we will round the adventure off with a 27km kayak at sea and a 10km run.
We are undertaking this challenge for two reasons. Firstly, we aim to raise funds for Advocate to help keep the wheels of this invaluable organisation turning. For those looking to raise money for a charity in the future, it is hoped that they will consider choosing Advocate as their charity of choice. To this end, we hope to raise in excess of £2,000.
Secondly, we would like to encourage barristers to undertake pro bono work through Advocate, even if this is just one case every 12 months. Pro bono work is not only hugely rewarding from a personal perspective but can and should be viewed as a great way to develop and build a practice. It can also offer unparalleled professional opportunities especially for those in their early years of practice.
Thank you for your support.
