The system for the appointment and selection of Queen’s Counsel is working well in identifying outstanding advocates, Sir Duncan Nicol CBE has concluded.
Sir Duncan conducted a review of the process in order to examine ways of improving the system, which is operated by the Queen’s Counsel Selection Panel. A number of recommendations were made, including encouraging applications from law firms and the CPS and the promotion of the QC honoris causa award to practising lawyers for a wide range of achievements.
Commenting on publication of the report, Sir Duncan said: “I am pleased to say that my review of the system has shown that it is working well, but there is always scope for improvement.”
